The situation

Search returns nothing for the creator "Chloé" when someone types "Chloe", and two captions that look identical on screen are treated as different. Jax has a creator asking why they're "invisible in search".

What you'll learn

  • PCAP 3.1-3.3: character encoding and Unicode, code points, `ord` / `chr`, string operations and comparison, and string methods.

Who you work with

  • Amara Okafor

    ML and Data Engineer

  • Jax Rivera

    Creator Partnerships Lead

Scenes

  1. 1.Looks the same, isn't
  2. 2.Count the code points
  3. 3.Build a search key
  4. 4.The sort is wrong
  5. 5.Strings check

What you leave with

You built the lab's accent-insensitive search key while preserving each original name. You also normalised canonically equivalent sort keys. Matching policy can create collisions, and equal sort keys still need a tie-breaker when source order varies.
